8th Grade Language Arts

A Twitter allows you to post messages of up to 140 characters long to update your readers of news or new statuses. A posted message is called a "tweet." You can post anything you like in the tweets, so long as they're not longer than 140 characters. 

This site is completely free to join. You do not have to be a member of Twitter in order to view our class updates. However, if you are a member, you can subscribe to the class Twitter, allowing you instant updates from the site, whenever you choose. After you subscribe to our Twitter, you can choose to receive updates via text message (by linking your cell phone to your Twitter account), so you can receive on-the-go updates about what our class is doing and reminders about upcoming events. Twitter sends tweet updates for free to your cell phone, but standard text messaging fees do apply, so please check with your phone company if you have any questions about that! Text updates are completely optional -- you may just want to view the updates from the web. Hopefully I can also get the Twitter widget at the bottom of this page to work, so you may even be able to view recent tweets from there. :)

To sign up for Twitter: Go to www.twitter.com and click "Sign Up Now." Follow the directions given on the screen and fill in the required information.

To subscribe to us: Please search HoddesHoller at www.twitter.com (after signing in), or go to www.twitter.com/HoddesHoller. Under our class icon, please click "Follow." You will now recieve updates about our class, automatically, when you view your Twitter home page.

To link your Twitter to your cell phone: After you sign in, please go to the top and click "settings." Click the "devices" tab. Enter your cell phone number, click the box at the bottom (allowing Twitter to send text messages to your phone), and click "Save." Twitter will give you a confirmation code that you will be required to text to the website (40404) in order to make sure the correct phone and Twitter website get connected. After this confirmation code is texted, your phone and website will be linked.

Helpful Hints: "RT" means "retweet." If it says RT in a post, that means someone else originally tweeted that message. If you see the @ symbol before a username, that symbols a  tweet that is intended directly for that user.
